Although flames have reached the Getty Villa property, the Los Angeles Fire Department clarified that the museum itself is not on fire. Firefighters are actively defending the structure as the fire continues to spread, fueled by winds exceeding 50 mph. Despite the ominous visuals, the Getty Villa Museum and the Getty Center issued a statement assuring that staff and the collection remain safe. They attribute the museum's potential survival to brush clearance, construction, and state-of-the-art air handling systems that have sealed off galleries and library archives from smoke.
