A federal jury convicted a 70-year-old man of orchestrating a murder-for-hire scheme that targeted three small business owners in North Carolina -- even after he had already pleaded guilty to similar crimes and was awaiting sentencing behind bars.
Court records and trial testimony show Nahro Sudoi Innab, who the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina identified as a Palestinian immigrant, attempted to arrange the killings while incarcerated, offering fellow inmates $10,000 each to carry out the murders.Prosecutors said Innab made interstate phone calls to advance the plot, leading to his conviction on three federal counts. “This Palestinian immigrant came here to take advantage of the American dream, but he has repeatedly tried to hire thugs to murder his perceived enemies,” U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle said on Friday in“We will not tolerate this type of terror spreading behavior. He needs to learn his lesson and behave in a civilized manner.” The plot unraveled when a cooperating defendant alerted the Federal Bureau of Investigation and secretly recorded conversations in which Innab outlined his plans. Investigators said the recordings provided clear evidence of his intent and helped prevent the murders from being carried out. FBI officials emphasized that Innab continued pursuing violent schemes following his arrest and guilty plea in an earlier murder-for-hire case. “Even after being federally charged, arrested, and pleading guilty to a murder-for-hire plot, Nahro Innab continued his demented and dangerous plans,” James C. Barnacle Jr., special agent in charge of the FBI in North Carolina, said. “Thankfully, a coordinated law enforcement effort thwarted multiple murderous plots, and he will be safely behind prison bars for years to come.”Innab now faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for each of the three counts on which he was convicted.75-year-old man dead after Fairfield County crashSpringfield prepares for TPS end for Haitian immigrants as ICE presence remains unclear State and local officials in Springfield say they are preparing for potential changes next week as Temporary Protected Status expires for thousands of Haitian iCommunity shovels a path back to school in Johnstown After a week of snow days and dangerously cold temperatures, Johnstown-Monroe schools prepares to bring students back to class, with help from the community.
