Pakistan grants consular access to Kulbhushan Jadhav, convicted of espionage in Pakistan, after world court ruling
In this March 29, 2016 photo, journalists look at an image of Indian naval officer Kulbhushan Jadhav, who was arrested in March 2016, during a press conference in Islamabad, Pakistan.
"Consular access for Indian spy Commander Kulbhushan Jadhav, a serving Indian naval officer and RAW operative, is being provided on Monday 2 September 2019," tweeted foreign ministry spokesman Mohammad Faisal late Sunday. Pakistan says the "working" Indian naval officer was arrested in March 2016 in its restive south-western province of Balochistan –– a region where Islamabad has long accused New Delhi of backing separatist and terrorist groups.
Pakistani officials say he was arrested on March 3, 2016, after entering Pakistan from Saravan border in Iran using the Muslim name Hussein Mubarak Patel.
