Both were rescued and escaped serious injury, officials said.Good Samaritans and firefighters rescued two people after a personal watercraft capsized off of West Wildwood on Wednesday night, authorities said.
Rescue workers couldn’t see the pair, but heard them yelling for help when they were called to the area of Bay and West Poplar avenues at about 7:05 p.m., the Wildwood Fire Department said in a statement. Both were wearing personal floatation devices. Three North Wildwood and Wildwood firefighters entered the intracoastal waterway with paddle boards and found one of the people about 300 yards off shore, officials said. They moved him to a North Wildwood Fire Department boat, where he was brought back to shore.
Good Samaritans in a boat found the other person and brought the rescue swimmers and him back to land. Both victims, described only as male, were treated for hypothermia, but declined to be brought to a hospital.
