Two people face charges after authorities seized 50 cats from a home last month.

20 at the home on Kreag Road.The Humane Society of Greater Rochester announced Tuesday that George and Pamela Meyer were charged with 24 counts of violating state law for torturing and injuring animals and failing to provide sustenance. The Meyers were also charged with 50 counts of failing to provide proper food and drink to impounded animal. If convicted, each offense carries with it a penalty of up to one year in jail, a fine of up to $1,000, or a combination of the pair."Obviously, I had an idea of how bad it must have been inside," said Jonathan Mussemeci of Perinton, "but nothing to that extent." "Just the smell of ammonia, you know, just the cat pee, cat poop," Mussemeci continued. "I mean, if I leave my windows open, you get a whiff of it. We can't even open our windows sometimes, and you just walk outside and you just kind of make that face. It's disgusting. It's terrible.""Obviously, we're saddened for our neighbors," he said. "There are our neighbors. We personally have had no direct problems with them other than this issue of the cats. And it's sad to see it come to that, that legal action has to be taken." This is the same home where roughly 100 cats were discovered after a house fire Jan. 14, 2021, the humane society said. The same couple was also faced animal cruelty-related charges.
