The water level in Angat dam continued to drop on Saturday, according to PAGASA .The state weather bureau said the dam’s water level further dropped to 178.89 meters this morning from 179.27 meters on Friday.The latest figure is 1.11 meters below the minimum operating level of 180 meters and 31.11 meters below the normal high water level of 210 meters. PAGASA said the drop is due to the lesser rainfall due to the El Niño phenomenon.
The National Water Resources Board earlier lowered the water allocation in the capital region. But the Department of Environment and Natural Resources assured that this will not lead to water supply interruptions. The DENR also vowed to take water conservation measures due to the decline in Angat Dam's water level. PAGASA declared the start of the dry season on March 22, which coincided with the El Niño phenomenon that began July last year.
