Eugene McCarthy was found guilty of a number of offences at trial
A man who sexually abused two young girls when he was a teenager has finally faced justice more than 40 years later.
"It has put a strain on my relationships in the past...I have nothing to be ashamed of and I have done nothing wrong. I struggled for some time when I became a mum and my daughter was younger. It just brought it all back and how I would feel if it happened to her. I became protective." The judge said he had read a number of "impressive" references from a variety of sources for McCarthy.
"Some four years ago or so they felt strong enough to make disclosures to the police. When you were confronted with these allegations you denied the offences and stood trial. I note from the pre-sentence report you still deny committing these offences.
