Tirso Ornelas didn’t get much run in Cactus League action.
He’s at least doing what he can now to stay on the Padres’ radar. The 24-year-old outfielder homered twice in Saturday’s Spring Breakout prospect game, keying the Padres’ 13-10 win over a team of Mariners prospects at Peoria Stadium. The game had originally been scheduled for March 15, but rain forced the teams to reschedule it for Saturday. Ornelas’ two homers drove in four runs.
First baseman Nathan Martorella also homered for the Padres in the game, driving in three runs with the blast. Third baseman Marcos Castañon drove in three runs on a double and center fielder Jakob Marsee went 1-for-3 with an RBI, a walk, two runs scored and two steals. Shortstop Leodalis De Vries went 1-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and two runs scored. Catcher Ethan Salas and right fielder Homer Bush Jr. both walked twice.
