Padres score 6 runs in the sixth inning, need Robert Suarez to get final 5 outs after 4 relievers give away half of the advantage
An old-fashioned pitchers’ duel at one of baseball's cathedrals turned quickly on some old-school small ball and devolved into a little bit of a free-for-all. The Padres scored six runs on six hits, a walk and intrepid baserunning in the sixth inning before having to hold on by the strength of closer Robert Suarez’s arm for a 6-3 victory over the Cubs on a windy Monday evening at Wrigley Field.
On the first pitch to Jurickson Profar, both runners stole without drawing a throw from catcher Yan Gomes. With the infield in, Profar grounded a ball through the middle of the infield to score both runners. Second baseman Nico Hoerner dove but had no chance because the ball was on him so fast.
