The Padres bungled grounders, whiffed on a catch and were caught flat-footed in a six-run third inning, and they went five innings without a hit at the start of Thursday’s loss to the Giants.
But then on Friday, the first day of this disappointing season’s final month, the Padres flickered back to life.Successive homers in the first got the Padres started. “It was big,” Tatis said. “I feel like this was what we needed to do, especially after yesterday’s game. It was just a good way to play baseball and also a good way of telling ourselves that we’re capable of doing that.”
