For the first time since June 21, all four All-Star hitters are in the lineup as the Padres resume their series against the Detroit Tigers.Profar started the All-Star game in left field and Tatis would have been in that lineup if it weren’t for a stress reaction in his right femur.Merrill will hit seventh and play center field on Thursday, the last time that the Padres had all four of them in the lineup since Tatis exited that June 21 game.
The Padres still managed to go 38-21 until Tatis’ return on Monday. They have a half-game lead on the Diamondbacks in the race for the NL’s top wild-card spot.return to the rotation as he’s starting a game for the first time since May 29. As has been the case for all of his 11 starts this season,The 24-year-old rookie has allowed 13 homers and a 1.35 WHIP through his first 69⅔ innings in the majors. He is averaging 7.5 strikeouts per nine innings.
The 38-year-old is making his first start since May 29, as he’s been sidelined by a groin, elbow trouble and the time he spent on the restricted list for a personal matter. Darvish allowed nine earned runs over his last two starts . Darvish has a 3.35 ERA in eight career starts against the Tigers, the last in 2022 .
