Padres aren't running much, so hoping Esteury Ruiz, who leads pro baseball with 60 steals, can help spark offense
He has, however, cooled of late, hitting .256/.408/.282 with one extra-base hit, a double, over his last 10 games. To make room on the active roster, outfielder Brent Rooker was optioned to Triple-A El Paso. The Padres have not announced a corresponding 40-man move to add Ruiz to the roster.
Ha-Seong Kim is back in the starting lineup after missing four of the last six games with a mild left thumb sprain. He will play shortstop and lead off, followed by second baseman Jake Cronenworth, third baseman Manny Machado and Luke Voit at first base over Eric Hosmer. Jorge Alfaro will serve as the DH in the five-hole, followed by catcher Austin Nola, right fielder Nomar Mazara, Ruiz and left fielder Jose Azocar in left field.
As for the Rockies, they were already without Kris Bryant on paternity leave. Now All-Star first baseman C.J. Cron, who is hitting .292/.345/.544 with 20 homers, is out of Tuesday’s lineup. Cron was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts on Monday after missing the previous two games after he was hit on the wrist with a pitch.
