Padres starting Game 4 of NLCS with Mike Clevinger; Phillies beginning a bullpen game with Bailey Falter
The thinking all along was that Mike Clevinger would be stronger down the stretch for having to wait through one delay after another this year.
“I’ve been battling some things physically,” Clevinger said. “I have good weeks, bad weeks. I feel like I’ve been battling since the All-Star break. I felt like I was hitting a wall for a second with my knee. Any rest right now is going to go a long way for me.” His sprained right MCL has been a concern since spring training, but how much it bothers him is a day-to-day question.
The good news is Clevinger said he threw his first “intense,” 35-pitch bullpen in about a month. The knee had forced him to cut short his normal run-ups to start days.
