The Padres are seven games out of first in the NL West but are a percentage point ahead of the Diamondbacks as the NL’s current third wild-card team. The Padres won four of seven last year against the Braves, who won 104 games and advanced to the NLDS.The Braves have won six of their last 10 games and are 2 ½ games behind the Phillies in the division.
Fried is 3-0 with a 1.67 ERA with 21-to-2 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 27 innings against the team that drafted him in 2012 and traded him away in a deal for Justin Upton.The 37-year-old has thrown 17 scoreless innings since returning from the injured list and has tied a career-high with an 18-inning scoreless streak that predates his time on the shelf. Darvish has a 5.30 ERA in seven career starts against the Braves. He last faced Atlanta in 2022, allowing six runs in 12⅓ innings.
