Utilityman Tyler Wade happy to be annoying and in the middle of a lot for the Padres

Before Jurickson Profar’s two-run single gave the Padres their first lead of the game on Wednesday, Tyler Wade beat out a double-play ball and swiped second base to get into scoring position. Before Jake Croneworth’s back-breaking grand slam, Wade popped a leadoff bunt over the pitcher’s head on the right side of the infield to begin loading the bases. The 29-year-old Wade is a .230/.329/.246 hitter as a utilityman this year. But, as Padres manager Mike Shildt said, “he’s in the middle of a lot.

” Things seem to be working out perfectly for Wade so far in San Diego, even if the starts aren’t quite as often as they were to start the season. These days, Wade is playing third base against right-handed pitchers if Machado is not in the field, as was the case on Tuesday. His two opportunities before that were pinch-hit chances, with Wade finishing one of those games in right field. This is the deal for Wade.
