Juan Soto says he has acclimated to pitch timer more quickly than anticipated; MLB, union to continue discussing possible changes for postseason
Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association are talking about potential tweaks to pace-of-play rules for the postseason.“In general, I think you ought to play the postseason the way you play the regular season,” commissioner Rob Manfred said Tuesday at a morning meeting with reporters. “We are comfortable the way the clock and the violations — particularly late in the game, in high-leverage situations — have been managed.
The players propose adding minimal time to the 15 seconds allowed between pitches when no one is on base and 20 seconds when a runner is on. They also say it would be possible to add to the one timeout that batters are allowed and/or add a disengagement available to the pitcher. “I adapted a little bit quicker than I thought,” Soto said. “It’s still weird sometimes. Mostly inthe the beginning of the at-bat, you gotta rush to get on it. After that, it’s all good.”The only former Padres in this year’s All-Star game are closer David Bednar and Phillies closer Craig Kimbrel.Yes, Rooker was with the Padres three times and played two games in 2022 before being traded to Kansas City for catcher Cam Gallagher, who never played for the Padres.
