Veteran DH knows what Tatis is about to endure when he comes back from PED suspension; he served a 50-game ban a decade ago
Nelson Cruz was not aware of the flap caused by a Thursday morning social media post from a Triple-A pitcher.
Tatis is eligible to return April 20 and is with Triple-A El Paso in advance of that return. Early last week, he spoke about what awaits him when he takes the field in opposing ballparks.Tatis was laughing. But he acknowledged, too, he is going to have to deal with a lot. It was noted he will not have to deal with the fans at Citi Field because the Padres play the Mets in New York next week. The Padres play at Yankee Stadium in May.
“You just have to perform,” Cruz said. “Performance is is gonna dictate. Because criticism is going to be there. People will talk. At the end of the day, people who are around him, teammates will have to be behind him, protect him. And he has to go out and play. There is not much he can do. He cannot control what other people say or think. At the end of the day it’s you against the pitcher, and that’s it.
