Abundant off days, Musgrove's return takes away need for six-man rotation for at least the next several weeks
Joe Musgrove makes his season debut Saturday with just one more aspect of pitching to check off.
Musgrove, who began the season on the injured list while rehabbing a fractured left big toe, worked with the new rules in the minor leagues. But Saturday will be the first time he does so in a major league game, and it comes against a Diamondbacks team that entered Friday with 19 stolen bases in 21 tries, the fourth-best rate in the majors. They entered Friday’s game, however, having allowed just two in the past four games.
The plan will be to try to keep Martinez stretched out for a time, as he could return to the rotation when Seth Lugo needs a spell. Lugo has not pitched more than 80 innings since 2018.
