Jesse Agler joined Padres in 2014, took over full-time play-by-play duties from longtime announcer Ted Leitner in 2021

Jesse Agler works before the Padres’ April 29, 2024, game against the Reds at Petco Park. Jesse Agler, who on Thursday will begin his 13th season calling the team’s games on radio, has agreed to a multi-year contract extension.

Agler began working for the Padres in 2014, hosting a pregame TV show called “Padres Social Hour” and filling in on radio. He joined Ted Leitner in the radio booth full-time in 2016. When Leitner retired in 2021 after 44 years calling Padres games, Agler became the full-time play-by-play man, with Tony Gwynn Jr. serving as color analyst.Agler, 42, is widely appreciated for his ability to meld anecdotes, baseball history and a wry sense of humor into a vivid description of games. “I am excited to congratulate Jesse on his well-earned multi-year extension, and thrilled that his voice will continue to represent Padres baseball on the radio,” Padres CEO Erik Greupner said. “Jesse brings intelligence, preparation and an authentic passion for storytelling that resonates with our fans every night. His connection with our audience and partnership with Tony Gwynn Jr. make him an invaluable part of our organization.” Agler, the only member of the Padres’ broadcast team who spends the entire spring in Peoria, Ariz., returned Monday from spring training after calling the team’s Cactus League finale on 97.3-FM, the team’s flagship radio station. He will call Thursday’s regular-season opener against the Detroit Tigers at Petco Park. “I want to thank Erik for his continued confidence in me and our fans for welcoming me into their homes and cars every night,” Agler said. “The support from the organization and the city of San Diego means the world to me, and I never lose sight of how special this opportunity is. It’s an honor to continue sharing the stories of Padres baseball on the radio for a community that cares so deeply about this team.”Long TSA lines at San Diego Airport but no ICE agents at the momentConcerning trends for seniors prompt shift in San Diego CountyBob Dylan announces 2026 summer tour, including San Diego.
