Green Bay can take the NFC North lead away from Chicago for the second time in two weeks on Saturday night.
Green Bay Packers safety Xavier McKinney and defensive end Micah Parsons tackle Chicago Bears running back Kyle Monangai during an NFL game on Dec. 7, 2025, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis.The Green Bay Packers can take the lead in the NFC North away from the Chicago Bears on Saturday night – again.
Thirteen days ago, Green Bay defeated Chicago 28-21 to move in front of the Bears at the top of the division standings. But on Sunday, the Packers gave the lead back to the Bears. While Green Bay lost to the Denver Broncos 34-26, Chicago beat the Cleveland Browns 31-3. That put the Bears at 10-4 and the Packers at 9-4-1 with three weeks left in the 2025 regular season. “It’s difficult to play a team twice in the regular season in general or just in general really,” Green Bay safety. “But playing them twice in that short of a span can definitely be more difficult and challenging because, obviously, like, we’ve seen each other not too long ago, and we’re already division opponents, so we know each other’s tendencies, and we’re just going to have to get creative. ‘I think both sides are going to have to get creative. We’re going to have to be more creative, and I’m sure they’re going to be a little bit more creative, too. So you got to kind of be ready for the unknowns, and that’s kind of another challenge of it is, like, you don’t want to go into the game thinking that ‘OK, we saw them a week ago, they going to do the same thing.’ Nah, that ain’t necessarily true. They might have some things that are the same, but they’re going to have some new things as well that we’re going to have to be -- I’m not going to say prepared for -- but we’re going to have to have disciplined eyes and understand we got to trust our technique and whatever is being called.”In the Dec. 7 game against Chicago, defensive end Micah Parson registered two hits on Bears quarterback Caleb Williams. But the Packers will play without the four-time Pro Bowler on Saturday night. Green Bay’s leader with 12.5 sacks, Parsons sustained a season-ending knee injury against the Broncos., “and I think they can get to the quarterback fast. So if they decide not to have the chippers and do those little things, then I think our guys that we have are very eager to and ready to go and ready to prove all the doubters wrong.”from the Dallas Cowboys on Aug. 28 in a stunning trade that cost the Packers two first-round draft picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark. Because Green Bay prepared for the 2025 season without Parsons, McKinney said the Packers would be able to play well without him. Last season, the Green Bay defense finished fifth in yards allowed and sixth in points allowed.. “Obviously, with him not being here, like on the field with us now, the majority of guys that are here now was here last year, so we have that chemistry already built up. We already had top-five defense, so like I said before, like, we lost a great player and a very impactful player for our team and our defense. But at the same time, we got really good players as well. We got good depth, and we got guys that were already here that are also really good. So that’s how I see that.” The Packers and Bears square off at 7:20 p.m. CST Saturday at Soldier Field in Chicago. FOX will televise the game., “and it’s tense. Like, you know, it’s smoke for us, and it’s smoke for them. So I think we both, like, have that understanding as teams and organizations that it’s always going to be a clash. “So we’re trying to get that top spot. They’re trying to get the top spot. And it’s just going to be about who’s going to go out there and compete the hardest and who’s going to do their job the best. And I think that’s all it’s going to come down to.”defensive back had seven tackles during his 70 snaps against Chicago two weeks ago. Last season, McKinney had 13 tackles and an interception in two games against Chicago on his way to first-team All-Pro selection. The 2025 season is the 12th that Mark Inabinett has covered players with Alabama football roots in the NFL. Inabinett's byline appeared in a newspaper for the first time in 1976. The intervening years have...
