The Pac-12 is bidding adieu to San Francisco.
The Pac-12 Conference said Wednesday is will relocate its production studio from its longtime home in San Francisco to San Ramon in the Tri-Valley. The sports conference, which includes UC Berkeley, Stanford and 10 other universities, has signed a 42,000-square-foot lease at a building known as BR15, or 12647 Alcosta Blvd.
, with Sunset Development at Bishop Ranch. Terms were not disclosed, but the conference said in the release that it will move this summer. The conference announced last year that it would vacate its 75,000-square-foot office and studio at 360 Third St. near the Moscone Center but didn't say where the new studio would be. In terms of office space, the Pac-12 is going with a no-headquarters approach. It has been at the San Francisco location since 2012. Both the shift to remote work and moving the studio out of San Francisco will result in major cost savings that will be shared with member schools. The studio in San Francisco, which was available to rent, included flexible production space, green rooms, makeup facilities and a kitchen. The conference said the new facility will allow the Pac-12 to produce more than 850 live events annually and will have room for 100 staffers and freelancers on the busiest days. While the Pac-12 Network previous studio was in the heart of San Francisco, the new one will be about an hour away by car in the East Bay. Bishop Ranch is a 600-acre business park developed by Sunset. Other major tenants include the headquarters of Chevon and AT&T. Sunset is currently redeveloping part of the park to include more retail and housing, making it more of a mixed-use community.
