The judge sentenced her to 5 to 25 years in state prison followed by 10 years’ probation and fined her $7,500. She recommended she be placed in a drug treatment program. Risso told the judge she takes full responsibility for her actions and understands an apology is not enough. Risso noted she has raised her 9-year-old daughter on her own and the younger one with the girl’s father. “I should have thought of them before I took that first drink,” she said. This was her third drunken driving conviction, court records show. Risso commented she had been in recovery.
Haught’s wife Christine, who also was in the van waiting for their food, told Risso she cannot forgive her. “You about killed him [her husband],” she said. “I pray you get the help you need.” After entering Shamokin Dam, Risso’s car struck three vehicles and the front driver’s side tire came off before it went over a curb and sheared off a pole in the area of Service 1st federal Credit Union.
