The Pennsylvania SPCA was called to the scene in the town of Effort by the Monroe County coroner on Friday after discovering a house full of animals where an individual had died.

When humane law enforcement officers arrived they found dogs living in feces-filled rooms throughout the two-story house, along with birds, cats, guinea pigs and rabbits.

“Unaltered animals were brought in and allowed to reproduce,” she said, adding it was not a breeding kennel. Many of the dogs had serious medical issues related to untreated health conditions, including skin conditions from flea infestation and ulceration of the eyes.The dogs and puppies are various mixed-breeds, including spaniels, hounds and terriers. The PSPCA also removed 12 cats and several kittens, two chickens, two peacocks, two guinea pigs, a dove a parakeet, four finches and four rabbits. A raccoon in a crate was turned over to the game commission.

After receiving veterinary evaluations the animals will be available for adoption at the PSPCA and its satellite locations via theirWilson said many dogs are under 30 pounds so they should be easier to adopt. She said she is rooting for an excellent home for an elderly pit bull who was suffering from treatable skin and eye conditions, whom she described as “so sweet.”“There will be cruelty charges moving forward,” said Wilson. “The conditions are just too terrible.
