Pennsylvania lawmakers have reached a deal on a budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year worth more than $47 billion.According to a summary released by the House Appropriations Committee, the budget spends $2.7 billion more than last year. However, it is less than what was originally proposed by Governor Josh Shapiro in February. Which was north of $48 billion.
Lawmakers have also come to an agreement on cyber charter school reform, which the committee says will save public schools $34.5 million dollars. According to the summary, the reform changes how special education tuition is calculated for cyber charter enrollment. It is a lifeline scholarship program that supporters say would help students in the lowest performing districts in the state move to another.
