Monday's annual gun rights rally on the Capitol steps in Harrisburg was small compared to prior years, even as Republican legislators took a victory lap for halting new gun laws.

CapitolMonday’s 17th iteration of the annual gun rights rally on the Capitol steps in Harrisburg indicated that hardline stances on guns still run high in the views of Republican state legislators – maybe even more so than their constituents, given the turnout.

“They are coming after you. They are coming after our right to bear arms,” said Rep. Rob Kauffman, R-Franklin, the chair of the state House Judiciary Committee. “Not one. And when they attempted to bring them up, we just amended it with constitutional carry,” Kauffman continued,of gutting and replacing any gun control measure with permit-less concealed carry bill.

Many other speakers also linked firearms to other bread-and-butter conservative issues, from religion, to gas prices, to COVID-19 policies. “I try to educate people about the danger of gun-free zones,” Goeser said. “They leave good, law-abiding people completely helpless.”
