After steady crash rates, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission hopes the new lights will catch drivers’ attention.

Pennsylvanians will soon begin seeing flashing green lights on construction vehicles that are hoped to make them more visible in bad weather and keep highway workers safe. Since the Pennsylvania Turnpike opened in 1940, 45 workers have been killed and this memorial that is part of the turnpike's Go Orange campaign serves as a reminder to motorists to drive safely through work zones. Under a new law effective later this month, construction vehicles will be able to use flashing or revolving flurescent green lights, in addition to the traditional yellow so they are more visible to motorists during bad weather.
