Cumberland County Emergency Management has advised that PA American Water has had a main break causing a loss of water pressure and supply.Around 15,000 people are still without water and experiencing low pressure in Mechanicsburg.We have located the cause of the drop in pressure in our distribution system and are initiating repairs. Approximately 15,000 customers are still experiencing low water pressure or no water service.
A boil water advisory was issued last night originally for 42,000 customers in Mechanicsburg as the company experienced a loss of positive water pressure due to a main break in the area. PA American Water states that the main break caused a storage tank to drain, leaving customers without water or with decreased pressure. The water company states the the loss of pressure could allow for contamination to enter the distribution system through back-flow.
The advisory states that all customers should bring all consumable water to a rolling boil for one minute before drinking, dishwashing, brushing teeth, or food preparation until further notice.
