The National Bureau of Investigation confiscated around P5 million worth of suspected smuggled cigarettes and arrested two suspects in a residential house in Lemery, Batangas.
“Ang nahuli kasi natin yung mga wholesalers. Merong silang mga sales agent na siyang nag-iikot sa mga sari-sari store, sila ang nagbebenta,” said NBI Batangas chief Christopher Hernandez.
According to John Consulta report on “24 Oras” on Wedenesday, the alleged counterfeit products were often sold in provinces because of their cheaper price. “Itong mga klaseng sigarilyong ito wala silang presence sa lokal na merkado. Usually Korean at Chinese brands na walang FDA markings, ‘yung graphic warnings... Wala rin silang BIR stamps so ang presumption ito’y mga smuggled,” he said.
“Alam naman natin na ang sigarilyo ay masama sa ating kalusugan, so kung fake at di dumaan sa ating regulatory agencies natin, mas dobleng peligro ang kakaharapin ng ating mga kababayan,” added Hernandez.GMA Integrated News sought their comments but they declined to issue statements.
