The national government has provided P548-million aid to Pola, Oriental Mindoro as part of the assistance due to the adverse effects of the oil spill that hit the town. ManilaBulletin
The assistance package was given by the Department of Agriculture-MIMAROPA , Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources , and Agricultural Credit and Policy Council during the visit of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.
He also disclosed the government programs that aid fishermen through the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, which they can use as alternative sources of income and can be availed of even when the effects of the oil spill finally stop. The DA-MIMAROPA Region also distributed farming equipment and postharvest facilities such as pumps and engines, four-wheel drive tractor, recirculating dryer, multi-cultivator, packing house facility, and hauling truck.
“Nakapagpamahagi din ang tanggapan ng mga binhing pananim mula sa Institute of Plant breeding ng Univeristy of the Philippines-Los Baños, mga organikong pananim katulad ng mga binhi ng organic black at brown rice. Sa panghahayupan naman, namahagi din ng mga baka, kambing, tupa at organikong manok na maaaring paramihin ng mga makakatanggap upang maging dagdag na pagkakakitaan ,” it was noted.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Labor and Employment, and Department Trade and Industry also assisted the affected residents.
