According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the anti-lock brake control module can leak fluid and cause an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving.
According to the documents, “The Anti-Lock Brake System module may leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving. Consequence: An engine compartment fire while parked or driving.”
Hyundai said dealers will replace the anti-lock brake system fuse free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on Nov. 21, 2023. Hyundai and Kia said owners can continue to drive the vehicles but should park “outside and away from structures until the recall remedy is completed.”
