Instead of the show fixing the bad taste that the ending of How I Met Your Mother left in viewers' mouths, it just made things worse. If How I Met Your Father had ended on a satisfactory note, it could have had a positive impact on the original show's legacy. Now, insult has just been added to injury, as both the original show and the spinoff left audiences wanting more.
The alternate ending of How I Met Your Mother was originally released as part of a DVD set and feels much more satisfactory than the one that actually aired. This finale has Barney and Robin and Ted and Tracy remaining happily married. It also shows Ted and Tracy meeting at the train station, which was a moment that the audience had been waiting for the entirety of the series.
