The Eagles Nest is a York County dining staple, with roots dating back to the 1930s. The family-owned restaurant gained popularity in the 1980s, when neighbors in the community would walk to the Eagles Nest for meals. After the fire, employees had to find jobs elsewhere while the owners of the Eagles Nest work to restore the restaurant and reopen.
They've shared each day of the process on their Facebook - sharing photos of the damage, demolition and, now, redesign of the restaurant. Immediately following the fire, the objective was to take everything out of the building. The same neighbors that filled the dining room during dinner were now helping the restaurant pack up what was salvageable from the fire. Restaurant employees and members of the community worked to empty the building after the fire.
Once the building was empty, the demolition process began. Because of smoke damage, most of the building was gutted. The restaurant also got new plumbing and a new HVAC system. Demotion continued through the month of April.
The restaurant shared that they lost more than half of their decorations in addition to all of the structural damage. In early May, crews took down the bar in the middle of the restaurant. Their latest update: waiting on blueprints to begin restoration. Other businesses in the area have been hosting fundraising events for the Eagles Nest employees while the restaurant works to get back on its feet and fully operational.
