A fire at the Plaza Latina Bazaar in Dallas killed more than 500 animals, primarily small birds, due to smoke inhalation. The blaze started around 9 a.m. on Friday, prompting a large response from Dallas Fire-Rescue. While the fire did not reach the pet shop, smoke filled the building, tragically resulting in the loss of all the animals inside. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Dallas Fire-Rescue said that by the time firefighters arrived, heavy smoke and flames were rising from the building. Images from SKY 4 showed a partially collapsed roof.
DFR officials said it's not clear how many people were inside when the fire started, but everyone made it out safely.Dallas Fire-Rescue says there was a pet shop in the shopping center.While the fire did not reach the pet shop, it did fill with smoke.All of the animals in the shop died due to smoke inhalation, according to DFR.It is believed more than 500 animals were killed.According to Dallas Fire-Rescue, most of the animals were small birds.
