More than 300 people were evacuated from their homes in Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental, due to flooding from the Layawan River. The river overflowed following continuous rains, affecting several houses in Barangay Villaflor.

More than 300 individuals were evacuated after the water level at Layawan River in Oroquieta City , Misamis Occidental rose following continuous rains . The river reportedly overflowed, and the water entered some houses in Barangay Villaflor . Evacuees from different barangays are taking shelter at evacuation centers. Classes were suspended in all levels in public and private schools on Friday, November 29, 2024.

Oroquieta City Mayor Lemuel Acosta reported that it started raining last night, stopped for a while, then continued heavily, with strong winds from the mountains, suggesting a possible flood from the mountains. The Misamis Occidental Governor Henry Oaminal ordered the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) to monitor the situation. The local government urged residents to stay vigilant and follow authorities if preemptive evacuation is implemented
