YANGON: Myanmar authorities detained over 24kg of heroin in Shan state, said a release from the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) on Sunday (March 1).
Acting on tip-offs, the joint anti-narcotic police force confiscated over 24 kg of heroin from a car that was travelling to Mongton Township in Mong Pan Township on Saturday.
The township police filed a case against two suspects while search for another one who fled the scene is underway under the country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, the release said. On the same day, a total of 24kg of raw opium were seized from a motorbike, along with one suspect in Ywangan Township of the same state.
According to a release issued by the President's Office, a total of 990 drug-related cases were registered across Myanmar while 1,525 suspects were charged in connection with the cases as of Feb. 22 this year, since the formation of the Drug Activity Special Complaint Department in June, 2018. - Xinhua/Asian News Network
