Qantas pilots have blasted the national carrier over allegations of price gouging and the illegal sacking of employees, demanding chairman Richard Goyder resign.

Weeks after embattled former chief executive Alan Joyce brought forward his retirement, his successor Vanessa Hudson has been forced to addressBut the Australian and International Pilots Association have added to the headaches, demanding Ms Hudson take action against the company’s chairman.

Picture: NCA Newswire / Gaye Gerard Now Mr Goyder and Ms Hudson will face another grilling from the Senate over the government’s decision to block Qatar Airways’ application for more runway allocations. “On any marker, they are not behaving as we’d expect a corporate citizen in this country and that’s something the shareholders have to deal with,” Senator McKenzie said.

Last week, Ms Hudson issued an apology to customers for the airline’s recent performance, however Qantas still faces scrutiny over accusations of deliberately keeping planes grounded to inflate prices. Shadow foreign minister Simon Birmingham refused to weigh in on the pilots’ demands for Mr Goyder’s resignation but said Qantas needed to “make sure it rebuilds confidence” with its employees and customers.
