Despite updated guidelines from major health organizations recommending against daily low-dose aspirin for most adults, many Americans continue to take it. A recent poll found that nearly 1 in 5 adults with no history of heart problems still routinely take low-dose aspirin, highlighting the difficulty in changing ingrained health habits.

“Habits backed by conventional wisdom and the past advice of health care providers are hard to break,” Kathleen Hall Jamieson, the center's director, said in a news release.

Nearly 1 in 5 U.S. adults who have no personal or family history of heart problems report routinely taking low-dose aspirin. According to survey results:2% take it “a few times a week.” That's likely because the younger folks haven't been exposed as much to the outdated guidance supporting aspirin use, researchers said.
