Joseph Leschinskie criticizes Northumberland County DA Tony Matulewicz for forcing him to end his candidacy.

SUNBURY – The Shamokin city councilman removed from office last year because of his criminal record has withdrawn his nominating petitions for his old seat under threat of being charged criminally.

In a statement released Thursday, Leschinskie accused Northumberland County District Attorney Tony Matulewicz of disenfranchising himself and supporters by forcing him to end his candidacy. That was a swipe at Matulewicz whose petitions were not accepted because they were not submitted until after the 4:30 p.m. March 7 deadline.

The other Republican running for district attorney, Michael C. O’Donnell, was granted permission to intervene in support of the elections board.
