Coffee shops are known for having cool decor, but the spacious Fiction Coffee in Deep Ellum’s Continental Gin building has to be one of the best-dressed cafes in town. Sink into a couch or grab a cup under a pretty house plant and Fiction might just feel like a home away from home. It helps that they’re serious about coffee, too, and they sell Tacodeli tacos. Fiction has a few locations, but the Deep Ellum spot — which has ample parking, how rare — is our favorite.
If coffee’s on your mind when you enter the old home that houses Fount Board & Table in Uptown Dallas, get a cup. But can I suggest something else to fixate upon first? Fount sells jammy egg toast for breakfast that is possibly the best pre-lunch bite in the city. It’s a piece of toast slathered with stracciatella cheese, then layered with prosciutto and several pieces of soft-boiled egg. OK,you can dive into the cafe’s deep selection of hot teas, matcha and espresso.
