The Sooners got a big night from Jeremiah Fears, but former Sooner Otega Oweh scored the Wildcats' final 18 points and finished with 28 as UK prevailed in a wild one.
But one thing became clear on Wednesday night against Kentucky: the Sooners aren’t running from this fight.
Oklahoma fell to 17-11 overall and 4-11 in Southeastern Conference play, while Kentucky improved to 19-9 and 8-7. Fears tied it at 77 with a baseline drive, and after Oweh hit another jumper, Glenn Taylor drilled a 3 from the left wing to put the Sooners back on top 80-79 with 1:45 to go. An 8-0 run by the Sooners had put them in front 68-63 with 9:40 left and forced Kentucky into its second desperation timeout of the half.
Brycen Goodine’s quick 3 made it 45-44 just 26 seconds into the half. The Wildcats immediately built their lead back to 52-44 lead with a 7-0 run, but Dayton Forsythe ended that run with a 3 to cut it to 52-47. After another Wildcat bucket, Moore hit another 3 to make it 27-22. Fears’ pull-up drive cut Kentucky’s lead to 30-26 at the 7:22 mark.
