ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Zoo has some early risers, with some animals feeding in the morning around 6 a.m. Bree Hitchcock, Alaska Zoo digital learning specialist, said the Zoo’s orphaned moose calves are bottle-fed.
The two calves are not related, but share a space together.
“They are both about 70 pounds and just shy of two months old. They’re getting their morning bottle feeding. It’s a baby moose formula,” Hitchcock said.
“They’re fed about three times a day now, and they’re starting to grow in their little baby moose teeth. ” The Zoo’s orphaned black bear cubs were fed shortly after the moose calves, but their breakfast looks a little different.
“They’re starting to make their way out. The zookeepers have put some treats around, so they’re going to slowly come out and come visit with us,” Hitchcock said. Zookeepers spread dollops of whipped cream and blueberries around their cage before giving them a bowl of food. The cubs are twin siblings who were found and rescued together.
