With Benni McCarthy unattached after he officially parted ways with AmaZulu last week, Orlando Pirates have been urged to consider appointing the all-time Bafana Bafana top goalscorer as their new head coach.
Since McCarthy’s exit from Usuthu was confirmed last Friday, the 44-year-old has been linked with Soweto giants Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, much to the excitement from the supporters of the two clubs. The mentor’s representative Rob Moore told the Siya crew that Benni will be taking some time off to be with his family after being away from them for a while and that he will be assessing his options.
The representative did emphasise that if McCarthy is going to return to Mzansi for a coaching role, it would have to be a club that has the resources that can match his ambitions, a statement which further added fire to rumours that one of the Soweto giants could be his next destination. “With Benni now available, I think he would be ready to coach Orlando Pirates. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Benni going to Pirates and I know how the chairman operates when dealing with such situations, he gets out of his way to get whoever he wants. I know the chairman would welcome the opportunity of having one of his sons back at the club.
