It was believed that a long-term Orlando Pirates target could put pen to paper with the club this week, but now he could do so for a shock rival.
Kaizer Chiefs, during the 2020/21 season, a campaign the club ended up giving a few academy players an opportunity due to a FIFA transfer ban imposed on the club.
Matsheke had a promising start to life at Chiefs but quickly fell out of favour with Hunt, and was loaned out the next campaign. He never made it back to club. Stellies decided to offer him a short-term deal and he has since impressed at the Cape Winelands side. His performances even went as far as catching the eye of Pirates. Not too long ago, it was rumoured that they were looking at signing the player, and it seemed like it would be a straightforward deal to do then.
Last week, this publication reported that Pirates were looking to bid for Matsheke, even if he renews his Stellenbosch deal. It has now been confirmed by the Western Cape side that they have parted ways with the player.
