The Orioles' star catcher, Adley Rutschman, experienced a significant drop in offensive performance during the second half of the 2023 season. This decline raised concerns despite the team's overall strong performance.
While the total numbers look great, finishing second in homers , fourth in total runs and RBI , seventh in hits and top 10 in batting average and slugging percentage , it became apparent late in the season and during the playoffs that this group has some things to work on.
But perhaps the most troubling thing that developed during the second half of the season was the erosion of Adley Rutschman at the plate.Ever since the moment the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 draft reached the Majors, the Orioles started to play better.In the first half of the year, the 2023 Silver Slugger winner looked like he was on his way to securing another award, having made his second consecutive All-Star game with a slash line of .275/.339/.
Injury was being speculated upon since he had never performed that poorly at the plate before, but neither Baltimore nor the star announced anything was wrong during or after the season.The Orioles skipper explained why he's confident Rutschman will be able to turn things around and get his offense back on track in 2025.
