in Washington D.C. hosted by President Donald Trump, activists across the country planned protests in all 50 states. Hundreds of people gathered at the Alabama Department of Archives and History Saturday to participate in the nationwide rallies.
follows days of protests against the trump administration’s immigration policies and deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles. “We’re here today, quite honestly, to make sure our voices are heard and standing up to what we are seeing is the hemorrhaging of our federal government, our democracy, and standing up to what is developing into an authoritarian rule,” Jataune Bosby-Gilchrist, Executive Director for the Demonstrators expressed their frustrations about President Trump’s use of federal forces in Los Angeles during a pro-immigration protest. Many of them say they feel as though several of the trump administration’s policies violate civil rights. “It’s not about a party, this is human rights, and it’s us against them, and we all need to come together. Who’s them? The government,” said protestor Nichole Johnston. “I need people to understand that there’s still values in the bible that I follow,” another protestor said while holding a sign that read, ‘who would Jesus deport?’. “Jesus, I still think he’s a fantastic role model that we should praise and worship and love, but we are not showing that.” Throughout the day, the words ‘no kings, no clowns, no crowns’ were repeated as organizers emphasized the need for non-violent, peaceful protest. “We have those rights. We have those protections, and without those, we are nothing. We are but pawns underneath a king, and we cannot have kings. No kings, no crowns,” one protesters said. Though the majority of those in attendance were protesting the actions of the trump administration, there were a few counter protesters in attendance. “Please, save your people, you’re letting them cross the border illegally, they’re killing us. Your family will be next,” one counter protester said.Man dead in Thursday night Bullock County shooting
