Oregon passed a law in 1987 barring police from taking into custody people who aren't U.S. citizens if their only offense is being in the U.S. illegally. Currently, the state prohibits public agencies from collaborating with the federal government to enforce immigration laws.“All of us deserve to feel safe and secure in our homes and communities,” she noted. “Our immigrant communities are Oregon communities.
“Whether it’s access to reproductive and gender-affirming healthcare, staying on our path to reach our climate goals, protecting immigrant communities, upholding our civil liberties and fighting for prosperity for every Oregonian, I will stand firm for all of us,” she said. “Oregonians have shown they will continue to lead with compassion, courage, and conviction – protecting a place where everyone can be themselves, feel welcome, and have equal opportunity to a healthy, prosperous life,” the statement read.
