Oregon Governor Kate Brown condemned right-wing violence in Portland as state police return to the city
Oregon Governor Kate Brown announced on Sunday that state police will return to Portland, where nightly anti-racism protests have taken place for almost 100 consecutive days, to assist local law enforcement following clashes between Black Lives matter protesters and Trump supporters that saw one right-wing protester fatally shot on Saturday....
Later on Sunday, Brown announced a series of measures to “protect free speech and bring violence and arson to an end in Portland,” her office said in a, including redeploying state police to the city, and convening a community forum for local leaders and Black protest organizers to “co-create a just and peaceful future.”
Brown’s latest measures follow violent clashes on Saturday night which kicked off when hundreds of vehicles transporting Trump supporters drove through Portland, with clashes breaking out between them and anti-racism protesters and culminated in the fatal shooting of a supporter of right-wing group Patriot Prayer, although information about the suspect has not yet been released.
The victim was identified as Aaron Jay Danielson by Patriot Prayer founder Joey Gibson, the Associated Press
