Oregon Fugitive Captured in Georgia 30 Years Later: 'Surprise of His Life'

Steven Craig Johnson, 70, stole the identity of a Texas child after escaping while serving 20 years for sexual abuse and sodomy.

Steven Craig Johnson answered the door at his apartment in Georgia this week and never expected what awaited him on the other side, federal authorities said.The 70-year-old fugitive, better known as William 'Bud' Cox to fellow residents at the apartment complex in Macon, coolly responded to the knock outside his fifth-floor unit Tuesday afternoon, U.S. Marshals Service officials said.

'I've been doing this almost 19 years and I've never caught a 30-year fugitive. I would consider it very rare. Most investigators go entire careers and don't see a case like this.'The U.S.
