The Tobin's resident orchestra will give its first concert in the H-E-B Performance Hall in March.
The Orchestra San Antonio will be making its first headlining appearance on the main stage of the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts next spring. The orchestra is part of the Classical Music Institute, an umbrella organization that also offers chamber music programming and a growing education initiative. It has performed in the pit for Ballet San Antonio and Opera San Antonio productions, but has not yet played its own concerts in the H-E-B Performance Hall .
Frost Bank gives $2 million to CMI for The Orchestra San Antonio CMI was founded in 2012 as the Chamber Orchestra of San Antonio. It has been one of the resident companies of the Tobin Center since it opened in 2014. It began providing music for the opera and the ballet after the San Antonio Symphony, which had served that function, folded in 2022. The March orchestra concert will be led by Leonardo Pineda, who has been named the orchestra's principal conductor and artistic curator.
San Antonio Philharmonic takes first steps toward a home of its own 'This is the first year that they're in those roles, and it's very exciting from an artistic point of view where they're going to take those series,' Montalvo said. Highlights of the 2024-25 season include the kickoff Oct. 4, a Chamber Connexions performance at the San Antonio Museum of Art pegged to the fall exhibit 'Amalia Mesa-Bains: Archaeology of Memory.
