New York's Orange County is seeking to leave the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), claiming it receives inadequate service while funding the agency through payroll taxes and fees. Officials argue that the new Manhattan congestion toll is the latest example of the MTA exploiting Orange County residents. State Senator James Skoufis and Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson are proposing a bill for Orange County to withdraw from the MTA.
New York’s Orange County has had enough of being used as an ATM for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and now officials want to drop the flailing transit agency.
“With only a single, sporadically operating train line for the over 400,000 residents in the county — and continued disregard from the MTA and the chief architects of congestion pricing — my constituents are being pickpocketed left and right,” Skoufis said in a statement.
